Frequently Asked Questions and Grant Writing Tips! What does Postmark Deadline mean? All of our deadlines are Postmark Deadlines which simply means that in order for you application to be reviewed, it must be delivered to our office or "postmarked" at the post office on or before the advertised deadline date. If the deadline date falls on a Sunday or Government Holiday, then the next business day will be considered the deadline date.. What happens after I submit my grant? Once received at the Five Wings Office, our staff person reviews the grant for completeness and eligibility requirements. The grants are then copied and mailed to our eleven member Board of Directors for Review. Each board member reviews the grant and assigns them a ranking based on our three prescribed criteria of 1) Artistic Merit of the Project or Activity; 2) Need for the Project or Activity in the Community; and 3) Ability of the Applicant to Carry Out the Project. The Board then meets to discuss each application and a final numerical ranking is assigned to each application. Funds are granted to the project which receives the highest ranking and then down the line until all available funds are disbursed. When will my grant be reviewed? The Five Wings Arts Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month following the grant deadline. For example: If the grant deadline is September 15th, the Board will review your grant on the 4th Tuesday in October. You will then be notified (either way) within a few days after that meeting. Please plan your grant activity accordingly. What are the most common mistakes made on submitted grant applications? Budget Page Errors: Double check your math!
